Celebrating sustainability
The project for the market-oriented promotion of certified sustainable cocoa production (PPDC) recently
organised a major event at which producers were presented with the premium paid to them for their
certified cocoa. At this celebratory event, a total of XOF 62 million (USD 280,000) was distributed to
968 producers (including 85 women) from 6 cooperatives.

The producers, happy and proud, shared their moment of joy with the local
administrative, political and traditional authorities (the prefect, sub-prefects and the advisor to
the King of Indénié were all present), as well as with the project partners. The event received
extensive media coverage on television, on local and national radio and in the major newspapers. |

Just like last year, the impact of this event was immediate, with producers knocking on the doors of the
cooperatives to join the PPDC before the presentation of the premiums had even been completed.
Participating producers affirmed that they were "beginning to appreciate that the project is effective; we
can actually see the immediate benefits, the premium and, in the longer term, increased productivity on the
plantations." |
